I named myself The Crafting Professor, since I'm a crafter, and I'm a college professor. I went through many, many years of graduate school, and the best source of relaxation and stress relief was being in my craft room or going to a local crop. Back then, I never told anyone that I was a full-time graduate student. I was waiting for the day I would scrapbook my graduation page. Now, I run the ScrapbookerPhD challenge blog (http://scrapbookerphd.blogspot.com), and am bringing my passion for crafting and teaching together. But here, at The Crafting Professor, I'm just sharing my work with like-minded crafters from all over the world.

Happy 4th of July

It's time for another 3D project challenge with Cardz TV. The theme for this challenge is Independence Day - July 4th. My sample project for the CardzTV is July 4th Box Card.

I love a good fireworks show on July 4th. In our area, there are several places to go for good fireworks... even our backyard! I look forward to the 4th of July every year because we throw a HUGE pool party. This year, in between swimming and eating and waiting for it to be dark enough for fireworks, we have hired a wonderful singer/songwriter who is going to entertain the masses!

I used my party as inspiration for making my very first box card (the base of the card is an SVG file). I was lucky to find two perfect embellishment cuts in Cricut Design Space. The sparkling fireworks are from Summer Celebration, and the firecracker is from the Independence day cartridge.

Looking down at the card:

Looking straight at the card.

The best part about this card was finally being able to use my patterned paper (thin patterned paper) with my new Cricut Explore. I used The Paper Studio seasons packs. The paper setting is fantastic, everything cut precisely. The glitter paper cut perfectly without leaving glitter everywhere or damaging my blade. The independence circle is cut from Cricut's Graphically Speaking, and it helps to pull the box card together when it is in the closed position. The twine is from my stash.

I finished off the card with the July 4th sentiment by CardzTV (from the Happy Days set).

Challenges Entered:
Bitten by the Bug - Summer Fun
Craftin Desert Diva's - Red, White, and Blue
